Cockatiel

The scientific genus name of the Cockatiel is the Nymphicus hollandicus. This bird type was originally from Australia. Importing can be illegal because these species are supposed to remain indigenous to native brush and scrub lands. The curving beak of the cockatiel allows wood boring, insect pecking, bark peeling, and expression. Cockatiels have an instant rapport due to their intelligent, alert gaze and attractive colors.
The cockatiel seems to have “personality”. Hand raised, hand fed and behaviorally accustomed cockatiels can add immensely to home life or family pet interaction. Cockatiels caged in pairs will develop rapport with each other but less with their owner, and cockatiels tamed living domesticated will bond to owners more.

Tamed cockatiels can grow into daily companions capable of mimicked speech and can be trained to do amusing tricks like singing or dancing to music. Cockatiels can make outstanding pets for homes with children as long as teasing, noise, and feeding training information is disseminated effectively.

The cockatiel is a type of parrot that makes a wonderful pet but retains the distinctive characteristics of its breed। Sharp, almost sour bird call and speech imitation are the distinguishing vocal signature of the cockatiel। But some cockatiels can develop the temperament and spirit of a parrot, except it comes from a small size bird. The neck shaking and head cocking behavior indicates intellect and response.
Cockatiel parrots eat a little amount of cooked parrot food, very small dishes of dry seed, and minute bowls of prepared mixtures. Baby cockatiels may need to be hand fed. However, it is generally recommended that the cockatiel is weaned from hand feeding prior to purchasing it from a breeder. This will make the cockatiel less reliant on hand feeding, which should prevent it from starving should you cease to hand feed it.

A cockatiel is a larger bird than a barbet but much smaller than a large parrot. Diet should be in accordance to cockatiel size and exercise levels. Seeds alone can be too high in fat for a domesticated bird and quantities should be measured. Many companies online offer specialty mixes of seed, fruit, and flavors that duplicate the diet of the random forest floor.

This medium sized to smallish bird in domesticated life eats a cooked nut mash or small amount of seed. Small dried fruit pieces and insects with lopped off heads make excellent cockatiel snacks. Premade cockatiel pellets and feed mix can be got from pet stores r ordered online. Dried beans, blends of vegetable and chili flakes, dehydrated dates and other fruits approximate the wild cockatiel diet well. Many varieties of rice serve as excellent food mix additives.

Domesticated pet cockatiels must depend on their owners for food, protection, bathing, and temperature control in their living environment. Their flattish curved in beaks can peck. Prevent plastic and other toxic materials from entering the cage area unnecessarily. Also, those birds which become clipped must depend on their owners in every instance from protection from predators and exist without flight. Clipping the wings of a cockatiel parrot is a matter of personal opinion.

Pet cockatiel caretakers should be experienced and informed about which feathers to clip. Owners should take care not to cut blood feathers and only remove flight feathers. Domesticated parrot pets should be given baths as wild parrots receive similar washing from rain, pond water, and fountain or waterfall mist. A temporary cage for travel or switching out cage litter and cleaning is recommended.

Pet cockatiel owners can even shower with their birds and blow dry their feathers! Take care with the cockatiel’s crest. Make sure under feather skin and wing feather nooks and crannies are dryish. Feather texture should maintain gloss and circulation benefits. Drying edges and separating fans should be diagnosed by a veterinarian. Use medium warm water and only medium blow dry heat settings.

Healthy feather growth covers the cockatiel's skin, keeping it moist and preventing it from being exposed to bacteria and airborne viruses. Spray mist dousing lightly through the metal cage wires can keep the bird cool and fresh. Feather pulling and plucking can be prevented by tying on a preventative linen vest that protects the skin and hide through the trunk and joints. Remove soft food quickly after feeding times and make sure pests stay clear of the cage during feeding. Waste removal should cycle after feeding and possibly during bathing for best efficiency and keeping a clean cage.
What kind of bird cage does the cockatiel type of parrot prefer? One that isn't too high, since the wingspan of a clipped bird doesn’t need it. Newspaper lined cages will get tails mixed with darkish ink ruboff. Ground fodder animals like these birds should feel able to “grub” for food or perform normal perching and foraging activity. Cockatiels and other parrots should have “ambling” space and variable perch choices inside their protected environment.

It's important to line the cage with the cleanest possible paper without ink so brushing bird feathers won't become stained. Magazine pulp may sever for under liner layers only. Cage paper should be changed daily. Use this opportunity to change up the cage. A little interior decoration goes a long way. Pesticide and finish free log bits and twigs can make for some excellent “forage” targets if bugs are inserted headless into the cage. Time these types of feeding right before linings are thrown out. There will be less mess and minimized risk of bacterial or disease borne particles resting within the cage environment.

The cockatiel cage should have enough room for the bird to snack on seed and get water without standing on the same perch to do it. Additional toys and recreation movement allowances should be present. Various bed material to line the “floor” can be problematic with chemical finishes. Bacteria and fungus can present disease. Learn the relationships between cage lining materials before introducing your bird to potential ill health.
Cage toys make up the cockatiel’s world। Some bright bird shapes, mirrors, and bars in brilliant colors can be changed out to keep visual stimulation high. Provide a multiple set of perches to relax foreclaw and leg support muscles tense form overuse on one perch. Make sure every surface inside the cage can be accessed for cleaning and disinfected.
